The wedding.
Im having a laughing fit right now. My dad is trying hard to speak in english with his new daughter-in-law, just to communicate. My dearest brother married a chinese! Cool right! I think she's wonderful. And she's trying to talk in malay.
The wedding last night was phenomenal. I loved every moment of it. Ok, not really. But more on that later. I want a wedding just like that!
The venue: Venus Ballroom of Furama Riverfront Singapore.
Temperature: fucking cold and i wished i had a jacket.
The place was posh. The wedding ceremony commenced with a little traditional malay dance by cute little kids. It made me wish I could dance again. Not that I cant. Just that with school now just a little distant memory, I think my dancing skills has decided to hibernate.
But anyway, some of my relatives mistook me for the bride. Haha. My uncle didnt recognise me. I had held out my hand, ingat nak salam him, but he stared blankly at me for a moment. Haha.
There was this moment, everyone was made to stand to welcome the bride and groom. That moment was priceless! I was almost moved to tears! With the lighting and all, that beaming smile of the couple, it was truely magical. Honestly, screw those bawah block weddings! I want mine in a ballroom too! Heh.
Last nite too, I saw ayah in a different light. Maybe he wasn't all that last-century and embarrassing as I thought him to be. I love my father. He was soooo happy and proud being there as the father of the groom. He got all excited when he saw Rafiq Gersali and Sarinah Lui's wedding at Venus Ballroom, Level 3 decorating the entrance of the lobby.
You see, my dad's different. He grew up in Indonesia, with a mindset totally different from a typical Singaporean. He cant speak English, and yet, he never fails to gabble on in his English to each of his customers at work.
Moment no. 1:
My eldest bro was like,"Ayah kene layan the guests sambil tunggu makanan datang." So my dad went all serious and went around welcoming the guest and having a lenghty chit chat with them. Even when the food was served and the performence strarted (so u can imagined he has been at it) , he was still doing the job as the father of the groom. To make it worst, it was the same guest!
Moment no. 2:
The atmosphere was totally quiet cause everyone has just settled down. But then, ayah saw my uncle at the door of the ball room. And he shouted my uncle's name across the ball room! No, daddy, this isn't a coffee shop.
Moment no. 3:
As the father, he was made to wear this little flower on his coat. He was SO proud of that little flower and what it symbolised that he made me and my mom take the flower on and off until he is satisfied with the position. Daddy, its just a flower.
Moment no. 4:
We were all waiting for the lift.
And my dad said to my bro: "Kerane kau pit, ayah beli baju, sluar baru. Kasut nie, aku da polish. Songkok ayah pun baru pilih. Kerane kau."
It is only in times like these then you realise how much a father loves his children. How proud he is of them, no matter what the child has done wrong. And suddenly, with all my siblings now married, I could suddenly see how aged my father is. And how much I MUST succeed for him.
Dear Ayah,
Ive began 2006 with a sudden appreciation you. I know you wont be reading this and Im glad. Your the very last person that I know I will be able to communicate with. Our relationship has been different from others. It hadn't taken off on a bright note, but it has never stopped you from caring. Im sorry for all those times I didn't pick up your calls. Though incoming was free.
Resolution 2006:
1. study my ass off to get good grades no matter where I end up after o's result.
2. be nice to dad. ok, no more slamming down the phone. heheh.
3. run away from mean and untrust-worthy frenz. RUN SYAH. RUN!
Aite. That's it. Happy new year.
